Co-hosts FleacéWeaver, MikeHeath and PernellClark, who bring you "Harlem Nights", LA's hottest monthly mixer and dance party for mature, progressive, professionals is proud to host our 2nd monthly event "Harlem Jazz". We are both excited and proud to introduce a new venue, Linq Restaurant & Lounge. Linq is situated on the fashionable West 3rd Street which blends sexiness, sophistication and style to create one of LA's most exclusive and yet popular dining destinations.

Our May event will once again feature our "Showtime at the Apollo" style open mic for jazz singers. Harlem Jazz is now the place where up-and-coming jazz singers can showcase their talents. Last month's winner Shurlavision (see her bio below) rocked the house with her unique vibe and original songs. She will be back this month to take on new competitors. So, if you would like to perform, please sign-up at the door between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The 1st three people to sign-up will compete for a cash prize and dinner for two gift certificates. The winner's picture and short bio will also be featured in the next Harlem Jazz email. Each singer should be prepared to sing one jazz song of his or her choice. The winner will be chosen by the audience.

Dear Harlem Jazz Family:

Special Request: As most of you know, acquiring quality venues for your very sophisticated taste is a challenge at times in the "City of Angels". Therefore, we ask for your assistance and cooperation with the following:

Dinner reservations and dinning tables are only for those having full dinners (at our last event, we were informed that a table of six split ONE salad). If you are not having dinner, but would like something light to eat, Linq has a wonderful appetizer menu available at the bar. If you are planning to have dinner, please call the restaurant sooner rather than later to make reservations. Dinner reservations will only be held for 15 minutes. Lastly and most importantly, in an effort to ensure our host venue can properly serve all guests requesting dinner, there will be a 90 minute limit at each table. However, please note that there will be ample room at the bar area to congregate with your colleagues. We are aware that many of our beautiful sisthas prefer to have seats at our events, so if you not having dinner, we highly suggest that you arrive early for bar and lounge seating. We realize that all of this seems a bit much; unfortunately, it has become necessary due to issues at past events. We appreciate your patronage and support! With everyone's assistance, we can have a great evening and continue to host Harlem Jazz and Harlem Nights at quality venues.

Last Month's Open Mic Winner: Shurlavision

Independent singer/songwriter, Shurlavision, has made it a lifelong practice of doing things her way. Hailing from the Motor City,Shurlavision drove by herself cross-country in 1993 to Los Angeles, California in order to pursue a lifelong dream of writing and producing her unique style of soul. Heavily influenced by the jazz stylings of George Benson, Phyllis Hyman, Michael Franks, Roberta Flack, Earl Klugh and Anita Baker, SShurlavision is a seasoned soulful performer, and quite the visual listening experience. Shurlavision's unique message of conveying smooth, sensual spirituality through intense vocalizations is only equaled by her never ending desire to give you the very best, every time she steps to it. Expect a lot from shurlavision, you will not be disappointed. Shurlavision can be contacted at 323.972.2542.
