This Saturday all the Blackweekly.com Girlfirends are invited to a special day of sisterhood and fun at the Skirball Cultural Center. On Saturday, July 25th, Blackweekly.com's Girlfriends will celebrate the beauty of summer and the birth of jazz music on the charming and relaxing Krasnow Park terrace at the Skirball.
Join us are we gather as Girlfriends to bask in the sunshine among flowers and on a beautiful hillside setting at an award-winning venue while savoring lite complimentary refreshment and dessert. Enjoy a exciting tour of the Skirball, followed by a free screening of Return to Goree.
This incredible documentary chronicles African singer Youssou N'Dour's epic journey to bring back to Africa the jazz music that originated with the slaves and to sing their tunes in Gorée, the island off the coast of Senegal where slaves were held before being shipped to the New World. (read more)
