The sensation that rocked the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Philadelphia Film Festival, BAADASSSSS is a film based on the true story of Melvin Van Peebles' struggle to make SWEET SWEETBACK'S BAADASSSSS SONG in 1971. Baadasssss covers an enormous amount of territory, both personal and political, in portraying Melvin Van Peebles making of the groundbreaking film "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song." Mario directs and stars as his father in his movie about the birth of a new era - Independent Black Cinema. Elvis Mitchell of the New York Times raved that BAADASSSSS was "a whole new kind of experience! An energetic and smart crowd pleaser!" Mario and Melvin have been touring around the country to present the film to preview audiences. They have been getting unanimous praise and standing ovations whenever they show the film. The buzz is starting on BAADASSSSS!
