Cecil L. Murray, senior minister of First A.M.E. Church—Los Angeles, underwent prostate cancer surgery in September 2002. Now listed among those surviving prostate cancer, Pastor Murray comments, “every three minutes a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer, but with increased awareness of this disease and early treatment, we’ve seen a dramatic decline in mortality rates. We have to keep spreading the word.”

First A.M.E. Church, Los Angeles, is the oldest black congregation in the city of Los Angeles, having housed the first black school, and nurtured achievement throughout its history. It was founded by former slave, Biddy Mason in 1872. It presently includes some 18,000 caring members.
